Mitchell's friend of 15 years Angela died in a fatal car crash. Mitchell discovered this to be incredibly hard and Angela was the inspiration for her song Angel, which appears on her debut album. The song was featured on her 7th Heaven Episode Nothing Endures But Change and in Chicken Soup for Preteen Soul she also talked about the experience.
